Configuration

Before your Companion can participate in the network, only a few settings need to be configured. Most of them only have to be set once.

MeshCore is intentionally simple. With just a small number of sensible settings, your Companion is ready to use.

Regional Standard Settings

To communicate with other participants in the region, all devices need to use the same radio parameters.

For the Rhön and large parts of Germany, the preset EU/UK (Narrow), Switzerland has become the common standard.

Selecting this preset is sufficient. No further changes are normally required.

For reference, the currently used values are listed below:

The remaining values are part of the preset and should normally not be adjusted manually.

Name

Choose a name by which other participants can recognise you.

Many users choose their first name, a callsign, or a nickname. The important thing is that others can identify you later.

Channel

To exchange messages, the devices involved need to use the same channel.

Which channel is right for you depends on who you want to communicate with. An overview of channels commonly used in the Rhön can be found in the Channels chapter.

Finished

That is all you need for your first steps.

You do not need to understand every setting or explore every available option. With the recommended defaults, your Companion is ready for its first connections in the MeshCore network.
