The Network

The MeshCore network in the Rhön has grown steadily over the past few years.

Today, Repeaters on hilltops, in valleys, and at many other locations connect large parts of the region. The network does not originate from a single place, nor is it operated by a single organisation. It grows through the efforts of many people and institutions who provide and maintain its infrastructure.

For users, this means one thing above all: MeshCore is already usable across large parts of the Rhön.

A Network That Continues to Grow

The MeshCore network is not a finished project.

New Repeaters are added, existing sites are expanded, and more regions become connected over time. As a result, the network is constantly evolving.

This gradual development is one of the defining characteristics of a decentralised network.

The Rhön as a Mountain Region

The landscape of the Rhön presents unique challenges for radio communication.

Hills, valleys, and forests influence how radio signals propagate. This makes carefully chosen Repeater locations especially important. Even a small number of well-placed sites can connect large areas.
